On the G5 you will have to run a folding client for each core/cpu. Otherwise on Intel chips if you set the -smp flag in the smp client that should make all cores work on the unit.

I was able to get 4 console clients running as I put the program in four different folders and ran the -local command and different device IDs. None of them worked as they wouldn't connect or something, can't remember the exact error. I also remember seeing the IP address was blank.

I'll play with it some more tonight when I get home.

There are no GPU clients for PPC right? Thinking my 7800GT could do something useful?

She is on the hood, and you are prevented from moving.

What the Hell do you call that??A problem. He should have called the police if there was no other way to extricate himself. Driving at 100mph with someone clinging to the front of the car is simply not an acceptable option.

Both should be thrown in jail and left to rot.Again, he should have called the police. What should she be charged with? Is she or is she not the victim of attempted murder?

wow people are so worried about magnisium being used. First off you dont use the stuff in it pure form. In the pure form it is way to reactive to be used. Make an Alloy out of it an boom you got something really good.

Heck most stuff made out of alluim is not made made out pure Al. Most of the time it is an Al. The alloy metal is normally li (the lightest of all metals but highly reactive)

It be some alloy metal with it.

Heck steel is an alloy. up to about 4% carbon by weight. Most metals we used to day are some alloy.

Apple knows what they are doing.

I use to have a motorcycle that had a magnesium alloy block. Believe me that block got a heck of lot hotter than any ipod or powerbook, it took an infinite more amout of abuse, and it was as light as a feather.

Bring on the Merom, Magnesium, Macbook or Triple M book.

On the MacBook Pros the graphics connection was downgraded from PCIe x16 to PCIe x8 to get PCIe lanes for the TBolt controller.

Wait, seriously?! Not that I'm doubting your credibility ('cause I'm not), but mind linking me to your source on that?

For what it's worth (I didn't know this either):

The graphics card of the 2011 MacBook Pro is connected on PCI-Express 8x (http://forum.hardmac.com/index.php?showtopic=9886&pid=17792&st=0&#entry17792)

Unlike in the 2010 models, the graphics card in the new 15" and 17" MacBook Pro is not connected through a PCI-Express 2.0 16x, but only an 8x.

    http://files.macbidouille.com/mbv2/news/news_03_11/radeon8x_copy.jpg

From a practical point of view, it doesn't change anything and there is no decrease in the performances, since the 4 GB/s bandwidth is more than enough to get the best out of the graphics card. Instead of getting angry at Apple, we tried to understand the reasons of that choice.

To begin with, the Sandy Bridge processor has 16 PCI-Express 16x lines available and 8 others that are used to connect the Cougar Point controller.
There are also 4 PCI-Express 2.0 links on the CPU and the controller (DMI link), used to connect the two components with a 2 GB/s bandwidth, which is plenty enough to connect the CPU to the hard drive(s) and all the non graphics components.

Even if all the PCI-Express links offer the same data transfer rate, the ones that are integrated to the processor offer the advantage of never being limited in their transfer of data to the processor.

Here is part of the internal diagram of the 2011 MacBook Pro.

    http://files.macbidouille.com/mbv2/news/news_03_11/radeon8x2.jpg

We can see on this diagram that Apple decided to limit the connection to the graphics chip in order to get 4 PCI-Express links for the Thunderbolt. This decision was probably made to maximize the performances of the connector and also prevent from making the DMI link a bottleneck.

That decision will have a limited impact on the performances of the THunderbolt concerning file transfer but it could become important if the data transferred has to be treated directly by the CPU.

In the end, at first it looks like Apple limited the graphics card, but that is not the case, and instead we get a more coherent architecture, which will allow the Thunderbolt to show its best.

TB is PCIe (among other things).

Apple's spec sheets have always been masterful at implying more than is actually available.

Et tu, Aiden ;). We agree on many points, but this one… j/k

And I don't think Apple is the type of company to feel pressured by history, i.e. "we've been releasing a new product every year, so we HAVE to release a new product every year." More like John Carmack, "It'll be ready when it's ready," because people will still buy Apple and not enough would defect to hurt Apple's bottom line.

Doesn't that pretty much describe iterative and incremental product development, and isn't that Apple? :D

If a component (hardware or software) isn't ready in time, drop it for the next version...........

On the MacBook Pros the graphics connection was downgraded from PCIe x16 to PCIe x8 to get PCIe lanes for the TBolt controller.

Have the teardowns or other info shown whether that's the case for the Imacs?

Well, the CPU only has 16 PCIe lanes so unless there is something magical going on, it is a PCIe x8 slot.

Anti-Semitism is generally quite swiftly and harshly dealt with in this country (and rightly so). It's a shame such an attitude towards prejudice is not more evenly applied when it comes to other groups.

I think Israel deserves quite a lot of criticism, as does the pro-Israeli lobby. Criticism of these two entities is not tantamount to anti-Semitism. Also, much what Thomas says echoes sentiments being expressed accross the Middle East on a daily basis. She is Lebanese, and Israel's track record with Lebanon is pretty shameful. Right or wrong, this stuff is not necessarily coming out of the blue. With that being said, some of Thomas' statements and language came across as very reckless at best.

Piercings and tattoos have been related to childhood trauma (mental).

I know that is not all true, some people just like to do it. Do you think that is true?

Don't think those cosmetic lasers will get those tattoos off. You'll have to have it done many times and it will leave scarring. A lot of people think that you can just laser them off, but it is really only to a point.

no trauma for me, and i will never want to get my tattoo's lasered off, they mean too much to me.

to BV: its amazing how much dealing with any physical pain is mental, though, i have respect for women and childbirth, its not something that i am capable of doing, so i dont know the pain of it. but i have had my fair share of injuries that would make most people howl.

+1 I'm so sick of the 30% comments when that is not even close to the issue.

    And I do know publishing.

Yep, and the funny thing is, even if you want to pretend 30% is an issue, fine! Charge 100% more for the iPad subscription. That should make up for it, no? I'd gladly pay it.

The 500% increase they're asking now is outrageous. (Wired is $10 for 12 issues through Amazon.)

Just got a call from the Best Buy that I preordered from this morning. They are backtracking somewhat. They have stopped taking any preorders, and he said that they "were not aware that AT&T had halted preorders" when I placed mine this morning. He said that they guaranteed my preorder, but he could not guarantee that I would get it on the 24th (although he said that I could very well get it that day anyway).

I pressed him for more details, and they had taken 25 preorders before they stopped taking them. I was preorder #21. So, now I'm hoping that the report about each store getting 45 phones is correct. If not, then I'll probably have to wait. If they get at least 25 phones in for the launch date, then I'm guaranteed to get one. He told me to check back on the 22nd or 23rd, and he would know if they received enough phones to fill my preorder on the 24th.

I guess that my best chance is to still stick with the Best Buy preorder, since the Apple site has pushed the shipping date back to July 14 now.

I am actually a relatively new entrant to the editing/movie making gig. I started making corporate videos using iMovie, which I had been using since V1.

The irony here is that I switched (dragged kicking and screaming) to FCP a few years ago because, amongst other things, I couldn't get my head around the "new" iMovie.

Now I am considering downloading iMovie '11 just to familiarise myself with the next FCP

He will get a long sentence. He has priors. She was stupid to jump on the hood, but obviously she had no expectation that he would try to kill her! A sane, non-murderous person would stop immediately. Also, he drove a long way and so had a long time to think about what he was doing. He can't claim some momentary rage.Which is how a court will see it, and that's what matters in the end.

Side-by-side, the 13" looks bigger and better than the 11".

Put the 13" Air beside a 13" MacBook Pro and they're not that different in size/footprint, but the Pro has more of everything - drives, FireWire, etc. Thin doesn't seem so important with that many features at stake.

The 11" now starts to look like the compact Mac - a better trade off between size/portability and features.

The 11" has a 16:9 screen, which is a more pleasant and useful aspect ratio. And once you work on it, you don't miss the somewhat illusory additional screen real estate of the 13" 16:10. It's bigger, but in all the wrong places. However fractionally different, the footprint -seems- to change dramatically.

If Apple made a 16:9 13" Air, there might be something in it, but at the moment, the 11" is fast becoming the MacBook Air and the 13" is lost somewhere in between. It has thinness, but the same footprint as the MacBook Pro, with none of its advantages.

There's magic in that 11" MacBook Air, no doubt.
