2010 Ducati Hypermotard 796 ?

Didnt we all love the Ducati Hypermotard 1100? The only issue with that was the high price - a bike not meant for everyone. But Ducati seems to have an answer in the form of the new 2010 Hypermotard 796. And this one is coming soon! No, this one wont really be a less radical Hypermotard, rather a more affordable one. Just like the current Hypermotard is based around the Monster 1100, this one too be made around the smaller Monster 696. There is every possibility though that the Ducati Hypermotard 796 might use a modified current 696 unit.

Is this the real thing? We told about Yamaha's plans for a 250cc super-sport machine way back in March 2008. Now we came across a Japanese magazine carrying a picture of this new Yamaha YZF-R250 bike. Is this for real? Is this just a concept? A rendering? Our fingers are crossed!

2010 Yamaha YZF-R1 LE with Rossi graphics

New R1 LE gets Rossi’s Fiat Yamaha MotoGP team graphics; R6 gets minor updates to boost power
Yamaha Motor Corp USA released info on its new ’10 models today, with an R1 LE model in Valentino Rossi/Fiat Yamaha MotoGP graphics heading the list. The new livery is basically the same as the MotoGP team bikes, with sponsor logos, Rossi’s famous “46” number on the nose fairing, and “The Doctor” stickers on the windscreen; there is also a replica of Rossi’s signature on top of the fuel tank. Mechanically, however, the R1 LE is identical to the standard model—so that means no Ohlins suspension and forged aluminum wheels as with the previous R1 LE edition in ’06. But the flip side to that omission is that the price is much more reasonable, with the ’10 R1 LE listing for $14,500. The standard model will be available in Raven, Pearl White, and Team Yamaha Blue/White motifs with a starting MSRP of $13,290.

Motorcycle Sales Down!

Yesterday the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) released August's sales figures for powered two-wheelers.

7,020 new powered two wheelers (PTWs) were registered in August 2009, totalling 79,897 this year. An 18.2 per cent fall on 2008 and a fall of 30.5 per cent on August 2008!!!

However the Department of Transport's National Survey gives a positive boost to biking here in the UK, revealing that over half (52%) of all motorcycle trips in 2008 were made for the purpose of commuting. The National Travel Survey also found that the average motorcyclist uses their bike as their main mode of transport for over one-third of all trips, making 8 motorcycle trips a week, and travelling 80 miles.

Suzuki Falcorustyco

Suzuki Falcorustyco Photo
The motorcycles journalists were convinced that the Falcorustyco (a Latin word for gyrfalcon) would be mass produced in the near future. They were partly right. A model called gyrfalcon was produced by Suzuki in 1999, the GSX1300R Hayabusa (a Japanese word for gyrfalcon), but it was a conventional motorcycle with chain drive, an inline-four with two cam shafts and conventional brakes and steering...
