All the MP's are made in China (Hon Hai Precision, aka Foxconn, is the ODM supplier to Apple for the MP - the actual production and assembly work is done in Shenzen, though the company is headquartered in Taiwan).

I'm not so sure about that one, unless it's changed in recent years. My 2008 MP (stock 8-core 2.8, bought right off the shelf) was assembled in the USA, according to the decal on the bottom.

Please, this is the same or less then pay subscription resellers. Then they have to actually print out a copy and mail it to you.

People who know nothing about publishing should stop commenting on the 30%...

+1 I'm so sick of the 30% comments when that is not even close to the issue.

    And I do know publishing.

I think none the white (plastic) macbook ever supports 8GB of RAM...

The mid 2009 white MacBook has the same chipset as the late 2008 aluminum MacBook. Aside from Apple restricting the mid 2009 white MacBook via intentionally crippling firmware, why wouldn't it be able to support 8 GB RAM?

Assuming they can get the supply chain worked out it would really be ideal for them to come out with the iPhone 5 by the end of June. They are beginning to see some of their market share shrink with some of the new Android phones and giving them another 6 months of new and better will not make shareholders happy.

Increase the memory, slap in the A5, update iPhoto and the map and call it good.

iThink that it will be named iLife Leopard (or something similar).
The Apple Consumers response would be something like this:

iLife '02, iLife '03, iLife '04, iLife '05, iLife '06, iLife '08...Wait, whoa slow down, WHERE THE HELL IS ILIFE '07????? For God's ********** Sake, you HAVE to have iLife '07!!

And Apple would try to fix it like this:

We don't have iLife '07, we don't have iLife '08, Hmmmm...What could we call it? [...] I know!!!! iLife Leopard and for the same matter iWork Leopard!
    Hip, Hip, Hooray!! Wooooo!!:D
since they are kinda getting rid of "i's" on their products, I guess next verison of ilife will be called Leaopard Life and next iwork.. youguessed it , Leopard Work LOL :) :p

Netflix is too expensive to acquire. No one will purchase them. Netflix's only draw is that it's throw away money. 8 bucks a month is a beer at a bar. Even if the content stinks, you watch two movies and it's worth it.

That being said, Apple, Google, Amazon, even Redbox are going to wage some serious war during the next few years on Netflix. It could turn into the next Blockbuster and go bankrupt or it could reign supreme with all the goliaths nipping at their heals.

If I were a company and Apple and Google were my competition I'd probably be a little afraid. One coming at me is scary, two isn't even fair.

I would assume the execution has already happened. That's what the fandroids would tell us. They're always right, you know.

Yeah ... truthfully? I'm not sure why so many people keep trying to use iWeb for any major web site work? I think it's good when you need to slap something together in minutes. (My kid's grade-school teacher uses it occasionally to put photo galleries up of the projects they've done in class, for example.)

But if you're really using it for "professional" sites people pay you to build or maintain? Why not look into buying a copy of RapidWeaver? Unlike iWeb, RapidWeaver allows all sorts of plug-in extensions sold by 3rd. parties, and it's just as easy to use as iWeb.

Lastly, I'd like to see the whole LP creation and other media creation as part of iLife. Mobile apps sound good except iWeb on iPhone would be quite challenging. I would like something where I can check on the sites and maybe even republish remotely from my desktop at home since iWeb's sites are so unreliable sometimes. Although, it might be because i'm using consumer software to create professional websites.

Anyway, can't wait for iLife & iWork 11 - hopefully with iPhone iWork apps :)

UMTS/HSDPA is NOT CDMA based. It is actually TDMA based, like GSM. While it does have a CDMA over-the-air interface, it is intended to replace GSM and its other sister technologies. EVDO is intended for the CDMA carriers (Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, US Cellular, Cricket, metroPCS) and will be a far cry from defacto as over 80% of the world is still using GSM. And second generation GSM is still amazing technology, and it and CDMA cannot be compared, just like apples and oranges or Macs and PCs.

You're right in that systems like EVDO can't be used with UMTS, but you're introducing inaccuracies in the way you argue it. UMTS runs over a variety of air interfaces, none of which are TDMA.

W-CDMA is a CDMA air interface, like IS-95 (which is the air interface specification that's frequently referred to by the name "CDMA", but this is misleading as the words refer to a type of multiplexing, not a specification and protocol. IS-95 is a specification and protocol. Likewise IS-136, also known as D-AMPS, was frequently called "TDMA" in the US, but both GSM and IS-136 use TDMA air interfaces, using completely different implementations. GSM's is actually wideband and frequency hopping, making it a spread spectrum TDMA system.)

    UMTS runs over W-CDMA.

A modification to W-CDMA is HSDPA. This is still a CDMA air interface (it's only a modified W-CDMA.) UMTS runs over HSDPA too, and indeed that's the air interface used for UMTS by Cingular.

Yet another modification to W-CDMA is HSUPA. This is also still CDMA, and UMTS runs over that.

While I'm just throwing facts out there, UMTS can also run over 802.11, using a system called UMA. (GSM can do the same thing)

Anyway, nothing about UMTS is TDMA. It's using CDMA (except for 802.11 which is an essay by itself.) It's not the same CDMA specification and protocol as Sprint/Verizon, but it does use a CDMA-based air interface.

What are the differences? Well, the big one is that Sprint/Verizon's CDMA, which is known as IS-95 and IS-2000, and/or cmdaOne and CDMA2000, use 1.5MHz slices of spectrum, whereas W-CDMA uses 5MHz slices of spectrum. This, and other protocol and encoding changes, means W-CDMA is better at handling a variety of different types of data (in terms of the reserved bandwidth you need for audio/video, and more bursty pattern you need for web access, etc), though supposedly it degrades poorly as you go further from a tower.

For more information, take a look at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS).

Well, lets see, it took Microsoft 5+ years to craft a new Microsoft Office. ;)

    Microsoft Office 2003 -> Microsoft Office 2007.

So no, Apple doesn't NEED to have a iWork '07, you'd just prefer that they do.

First things first: I think you'll find that if you subtract 2003 from 2007 you'll end up with the number 4. In this case four years.

Next: If Apple names it's next version of iLife, iLife '08, it would brake the routine, but you see Microsoft is not bothered about that so who cares?

However, it would be nice to hear more about how this data tracking benefits us. What apps and features use it? What % performance increase does it give? What benefit does it give Apple and it's third party partners? I want to see the pros as we seem to have covered the cons with much vigor recently.

The most visible one that Apple gave was that it takes minutes for a GPS location if you don't have an assist. You can sort of test this by going out and getting a dumb GPS and seeing how long it takes to find you. In my experience it can take hours (moved between hemispheres so the GPS took a while to figure out where it moved to). With wifi and cell tower data it can speed up location finding because it can give the phone a pretty good estimate as to where you are as a starting point. Keeping a local cache of nearby locations allows the phone to not have to query constantly and increase the speed even more assuming you don't have a fast network connection. This also increases your battery life as the phone isn't working as hard or as long.

Exact percentages? Beats me. The location finding ability of the device would be greatly decreased without this sort of cache, though.

Here is a wired article if you want a longer explanation. (http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/04/apple-iphone-tracking/)

Great... we are tagged like cattle.:rolleyes: Is this something that can be fixed with some sort of patch? I'm guessing if it could be patched it could also be worked around? As of late, "security vulnerabilies" and "Apple" have been nearly synomous with one another...

The Wired App is just two stars. For the free edition.

Overall, the app sits at 2.5 stars for all versions.

That's one good reason for Conde to tap on the brakes.

I'm reading that mounting it above the TV gives you an extra 1-2 feet of space, if you are short of it by having the sensor below the TV.

Tried it both ways. Made no discernible difference. It saw the gaming area zone exactly the same for me. :(

He kind of hit the nail on the head with that diatribe. I especially liked the 1984 big brother reference. Quite appropriate as apple has been acting more like big brother and less "thinking different"
